It was also the season that saw the courageous cancer battle fought by their beloved manager, Fred Hutchinson, as the players vowed to play for Hutch.

Reds fan since 1961. Loved the ‘60s Reds team… and players. The ‘64 team would be in my all-time top five favorite Reds Teams. I actually attended my 1st Reds game at Crosley on August 6, ‘64. The Reds beat the Braves 9-3… Joey Jay was the winning pitcher… still my favorite baseball score (don’t know if anyone else has one of those). Unfortunately, this series was the last managed by Hutch who took a leave of absence to deal with his cancer.
